Matthew B. Pavone is a former federal prosecutor who served for over ten years in the United States Attorney’s Offices for the Southern and Northern Districts of California.  Like Ms. Auerbach, he was at one time the First Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of California, overseeing False Claims Act litigation by the federal government in that jurisdiction.  While with the government, Mr. Pavone lectured at the Department of Justice Advocacy Institute on trial tactics.  He is a recipient of the Department of Justice’s “Exceptional Service Award” for his efforts heading the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force for the Northwestern United States.

A seasoned trial lawyer

After finishing his government career, Mr. Pavone was a partner in a prominent San Francisco law firm where he worked on a wide variety of cases, including False Claims Act litigation. He subsequently founded his own law firm where he continued False Claims Act litigation as well as other trial work. He has actively participated in the Firm’s west coast cases, including our representation of Relator Joe Strom against Johnson & Johnson/Scios case, where he took part in the litigation that led to a $184 million recovery.

Mr. Pavone is a Phi Beta Kappa member, and a graduate of the University of California, at Berkeley. After earning his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Mr. Pavone served as a law clerk to United States District Judge, William T. Swigert, of the Northern District.  Mr. Pavone is admitted to practice law in all federal and state courts in California, and he maintains an active independent practice.
